YouTuber and social media commentator Ajeet Bharti was questioned by Noida Police for several hours on Tuesday over his remarks about Chief Justice of India (CJI) BR Gavai. The questioning followed a controversial video Bharti shared on X and other platforms after an incident in the Supreme Court, where a lawyer attempted to throw a shoe at the Chief Justice. In his video, Bharti taunted the Chief Justice and captioned it, “Gavai is a lousy, undeserving judge, and he should face a contempt (of court) case.”
During the podcast, Bharti accused the Chief Justice of harboring anti-Hindu sentiments and refused to condemn the attack in court. He further warned that if judges continued to make such remarks, similar incidents could occur outside the courtroom as well. His statements triggered a strong backlash online, with many social media users demanding strict action against him. The remarks also came amid widespread condemnation of the courtroom incident by leaders across the political spectrum, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi.
Following the uproar, Noida Police summoned Bharti for questioning. He was first taken to the Sector 58 police station before being moved to the ACP 2 office for further interrogation. After several hours, he was released around 4:30 pm. Police have not yet issued an official statement on the matter. Speaking briefly to the media after his release, Bharti identified himself as a journalist and refused to elaborate on the incident.
Later, addressing his followers on X, Bharti clarified that he had not been arrested and was safe. “I am safe and sound. No arrest has happened, no custody. You all don’t worry. This is a part of a journalist’s life. The relentless thrashing of the leftists will continue,” he wrote in Hindi.
