Police claim that the bomb threat on Vijay's Chennai residence during the Karur stampede incident was a hoax

A bomb threat was reported at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s residence in Neelankarai, Chennai, sending shockwaves through the city’s law enforcement circles. The call, allegedly made by a person from Kanyakumari, warned police that a bomb would be planted at Vijay’s home if he conducted any future public meetings. The police immediately swung into action, dispatching the Bomb Detection and Disposal (BDD) Squad to the scene and intensifying security around the actor’s residence. However, after thorough checks, authorities confirmed that the threat was a hoax, though the investigation to trace the caller’s identity and motive remains ongoing.

The incident comes in the wake of a devastating tragedy at Vijay’s political rally in Karur, which left at least 41 people dead following a stampede. The rally, which drew thousands of supporters, descended into chaos when panic spread through the crowd, leading to a crush that proved fatal for many attendees. Harrowing videos circulating on social media showed people climbing onto nearby thatched huts in an attempt to escape the surge. The scale of the tragedy has cast a shadow over Vijay’s early political journey and stirred intense public debate about crowd management and safety at political gatherings.

Following the incident, Vijay personally reached out to the bereaved families through video calls, expressing his profound grief and solidarity. He assured them of his unwavering support, promising financial compensation to the families of those who lost their lives and stating that he would visit them in person soon. His message, “I am with you,” was widely shared, reflecting his emotional engagement with the victims’ families amid the growing controversy.

Meanwhile, the legal and political fallout from the Karur incident continues to deepen. The Madras High Court sharply criticised Vijay for allegedly leaving the site soon after the stampede and questioned the adequacy of his party’s response in handling the aftermath. In response, Vijay’s political outfit, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has approached the Supreme Court, seeking an independent investigation into the incident. The party has accused the Special Investigation Team (SIT)—set up under court orders—of bias. Adding to the mounting pressure, the father of a 13-year-old victim has filed a petition demanding a CBI probe, claiming that only a central investigation could uncover the full truth behind the tragic event.

As the bomb threat turns out to be a false alarm, authorities continue to probe its origin, while the focus remains on the Karur tragedy, which has not only shaken Vijay’s political movement but also sparked a larger conversation about accountability and public safety in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.
