The family of a Haryana police officer would cremate the remains following the arrest of the late IPS officer's wife

Tension continues to mount in Haryana’s Rohtak district as the death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar, who died by suicide, has ignited outrage and demands for justice. His grieving family has refused to hand over the body to authorities and declared that the cremation will only take place once IAS officer Amneet Puran Kumar, wife of the late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, is arrested.

According to the family, Sandeep had been under severe pressure and mental distress after arresting the gunman of the late IPS officer in a bribery case. They allege that he faced continuous harassment following the arrest and had confided his fears to them just days before his death. “Our brother is a martyr who stood against corruption,” said his cousin Shishpal Lathar, adding that Sandeep’s act was one of courage, not despair. The family has also demanded a thorough investigation into the alleged assets of the late IPS officer, claiming they were worth between ₹2,000 crore and ₹3,000 crore.

Sandeep’s body was discovered near a tubewell on the Rohtak–Panipat road, along with a three-page note and a recorded video message. In both, he accused the late IPS officer of corruption, political favoritism, and misuse of authority. Sandeep stated that he feared arrest and persecution within the system, alleging that he was being targeted for exposing corruption and refusing to engage in illegal activities. “He began caste politics, transferred honest officers, and protected corrupt subordinates,” Sandeep said in his final message.

His family described him as a sincere and fearless officer who followed in his father’s footsteps — a former police inspector — and came from a line of patriots, with his grandfather having served in all three major wars fought by India. Sandeep leaves behind his wife, mother, a seven-year-old son, and two daughters.

Rohtak SP Surendra Singh Bhoria confirmed that forensic teams are investigating the case and that a detailed probe is underway. “He was known for his integrity and dedication,” Bhoria stated, assuring that all aspects of the case are being examined.

The incident has deepened the turmoil surrounding the suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, who, before he died in Chandigarh on October 7, left behind a nine-page note accusing senior police officers of harassment and caste-based discrimination. Following his death, his wife, Amneet Puran Kumar, filed a complaint against 13 senior officials under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, alleging abetment to suicide.

Now, with ASI Sandeep’s death and his accusations against the same circle of officers, the case has taken a dramatic turn — raising questions about corruption, abuse of power, and systemic bias within the police force. The state government faces mounting pressure from Sandeep’s family and local residents, who have vowed not to perform his last rites until justice is delivered.
