The interim government is attempting to detain me without enough justification: Former Nepalese Prime Minister Oli

Oli also highlighted what he described as systematic attempts by the caretaker government to undermine his political influence. He claimed that administrative machinery was being used to intimidate party workers and allies, alleging arbitrary transfers and harassment of CPN-UML members across the country. “They are not focused on governance or election preparations but on weakening political opponents,” he asserted, warning that such actions could deepen political instability in Nepal.

The former prime minister reiterated his stance on restoring the dissolved House of Representatives, arguing that its reinstatement was critical to stabilizing the democratic framework. Oli claimed that the current government’s approach had created confusion among voters and civil servants alike, which, he said, could jeopardize the credibility of the upcoming general elections scheduled for March 5, 2026. He emphasized that his party would challenge unconstitutional actions through all legal and democratic avenues.

Oli also addressed concerns over public perception, stating that misinformation and selective media coverage had painted an incomplete picture of the events surrounding his resignation. He alleged that protests, while supported by youth movements calling for reform, had been exploited by external influences to foment chaos. “The Gen Z uprising became a tool for outside forces to disrupt governance and spread anarchy,” he said, stressing that genuine public dissent should not justify violence or vandalism.

Turning to his political future, Oli projected confidence in his ability to regain leadership, asserting that public support for his party remained substantial despite recent setbacks. He suggested that a return to power would depend on the electorate’s judgment but maintained that he was prepared to continue steering the CPN-UML and contribute to national development. He concluded by stressing the importance of maintaining party unity and consolidating grassroots support ahead of the elections, indicating a strategic focus on both political resilience and national governance.
