The 'Superstar' of the Indian fintech sector, according to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, is Paytm


At the Global Fintech Festival (GFF) 2025, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted India’s rising influence in the global fintech sector, emphasizing the country’s technological innovation, digital inclusion, and entrepreneurial scale. He specifically cited Paytm as a leading example of Indian fintech companies expanding internationally. Addressing industry leaders, investors, and policymakers, Starmer invited Indian fintech firms to view the UK as a gateway to global markets, signaling a desire to foster stronger cross-border innovation and collaboration.

Starmer’s remarks underscored India’s increasing prominence in the fintech arena, with Paytm representing both digital progress and the potential to contribute significantly to the UK’s fintech ecosystem. The Prime Minister’s invitation reflects mutual ambitions to deepen India–UK cooperation in technology and financial services.

During the festival, Paytm unveiled India’s first AI-powered Soundbox for payments, a significant technological innovation designed to enhance merchant productivity and customer engagement. The AI Soundbox features an intelligent assistant capable of interacting in 11 local languages, delivering real-time insights on payments and business performance, and facilitating direct merchant interaction, effectively functioning as a comprehensive AI-driven business assistant.
