Three people are detained and three are on the run after Andhra Pradesh police seize 275 kg of ganja

In a significant anti-drug operation in Andhra Pradesh, police in Anakapalli district seized 275 kilograms of ganja worth Rs 13.75 lakh on October 12. The contraband, being transported in a TATA CURVV car via the Munchangiputtu–Paderu–12th Mile Stone–Konam route toward Chodavaram, was intercepted by Chodavaram Police around 4 pm.

Three individuals—Bisoi Mohan Babu (28), Bissai Vijay Kumar (23), and Vanthala Venkata Rao alias Buddu (21)—were arrested on the spot. Authorities identified them as facilitators for the transportation of the ganja. They were presented in court and remanded on October 13.

Three others involved remain at large: the main supplier Vanthala Devadas from Odisha, the intended recipient Chandrabhan Bishnoi from Rajasthan, and the car driver Kocham Surendra alias Guru. Investigations revealed that Devadas sourced the ganja from Odisha’s Chitrakonda area, while Bishnoi was to receive it in Jodhpur.

Police recovered 275 kg of ganja packed in eight bags, the TATA CURVV vehicle (AP40 FG 5612), two Pulsar bikes, and four Android phones. The case has been registered under multiple provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.

The operation was led by District SP Tuhin Sinha, IPS, and supervised by DSP Sravani, with execution by Chodavaram CI P Appalaraju, SIs B Naga Karthik and B Jogarao, and their team. Investigations into the absconding suspects continue.
