A head-on collision between two private buses in Tamil Nadu results in six fatalities and thirty-two injuries

Six people lost their lives in a horrific road accident near Idaikkal in Tamil Nadu’s Tenkasi district after two private buses collided head-on, leaving the front section of one of the vehicles completely crushed. The force of the impact was so severe that the mangled remains of the bus’s cabin were barely recognisable, and shattered glass and twisted metal were scattered across the roadway. Police and local residents rushed to the scene, where traffic quickly came to a standstill. A JCB machine was deployed to remove debris and assist rescue teams in gaining access to the trapped passengers.

A total of 32 passengers sustained injuries in the crash and were rushed to a Tenkasi hospital for treatment. According to police, one bus was travelling from Madurai to Tenkasi while the other was en route to Kadaiyanallur when the collision took place. Among the dead were five women and one man, all of whom died on the spot before help could arrive. Officers have cordoned off the area as they investigate what led to the deadly crash, including whether speeding, negligence or poor visibility played a role.

The tragedy follows another major accident earlier this month in Telangana’s Rangareddy district, where 20 people were killed and around 20 others injured after a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation bus collided head-on with a speeding truck. That bus, carrying more than 70 passengers, was struck with such force that several occupants died instantly, and the wreckage of both vehicles was strewn across the highway. Among the victims were ten women, eight men and a three-month-old infant. According to ADG Mahesh Bhagwat, the crash occurred when a tipper truck travelling at high speed rammed into the bus heading towards Hyderabad from Vikarabad.
