A top UP police officer was suspended after an investigation revealed a corruption trail worth Rs 100 crore

Uttar Pradesh DSP Rishikant Shukla has been suspended after a Special Investigation Team uncovered assets worth nearly ₹100 crore allegedly linked to him, most of which are suspected to be benami properties. Shukla is considered a close associate of jailed Kanpur-based lawyer-turned-gangster Akhilesh Dubey.

Officials stated that properties worth around ₹92 crore have already been traced across 12 locations, with more assets still under verification. Many of these assets are believed to be held in the names of proxies, and documents for additional properties are yet to be recovered.

Investigators noted that Shukla allegedly amassed disproportionate wealth during his posting in Kanpur between 1998 and 2009. His PAN details were reportedly used in multiple high-value property transactions that far exceeded his legal income. The probe also suggests that he used family members and associates to conceal ownership. Among the identified assets are 11 commercial shops in Kanpur’s Aryanagar locality.

Shukla, who has held various posts since 1998, was serving as Circle Officer in Bhogaon, Mainpuri, at the time action was taken. Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Kumar confirmed the suspension and said a formal Vigilance inquiry has begun.

The move follows a report by former Kanpur Police Commissioner Akhil Kumar, who detailed Shukla’s alleged role in a land-grabbing and extortion network linked to Dubey. Another police officer associated with Dubey had already been arrested earlier in the case.

Akhilesh Dubey, currently in jail, is accused of running operations involving fake case filings, extortion, and illegal property deals. The state Home Department has directed the Vigilance Establishment to carry out a comprehensive probe, with the matter now forwarded to the Director General of Police headquarters for further action.
