CCTV shows a Bengaluru woman being attacked and dragged by a neighbor following a minor argument

A shocking case of violence in Bengaluru’s Kodigehalli locality has triggered outrage after CCTV footage captured a woman being viciously attacked by her neighbour and his family in broad daylight. The victim, identified as Chitrakala, was assaulted after she objected to construction workers drilling into her compound wall, an act she said damaged her property and violated her space.

According to the FIR, the incident began on November 14, around 1 pm, when Chitrakala confronted the workers employed by her neighbour, Pavan Kumar, who is constructing a building adjacent to her home. Minutes after she questioned them, Pavan allegedly charged at her, grabbed her by the hair, dragged her to the ground, and repeatedly hit and kicked her. CCTV video from the scene shows Pavan abusing her, pulling her violently, kicking her, and striking her with a rod.

The FIR states that Pavan’s mother, Padmavathi, his wife, Bhaghya, and his father, Rajendra, joined in the assault. Another accused, identified as Monica, allegedly hit the victim with a rod. The violence escalated further when Rajendra reportedly threatened to throw acid on Chitrakala, telling her that he already had it ready. Padmavathi and Bhaghya are also accused of physically attacking her and abusing her during the assault.

Chitrakala’s complaint details that the aggression continued even on the following day. When she questioned the workers again on the morning of November 15, Pavan allegedly threatened to stab her with a dagger kept in his vehicle, saying her “intestines would spill out.” He also allegedly warned her that he would kill her if he ever found her alone at home.

Several neighbours reportedly witnessed the assault, and the CCTV footage has provided police with concrete visual evidence of the attack. The Kodigehalli police have now registered a case against all five accused—Pavan Kumar, Padmavathi, Bhaghya, Rajendra, and Monica—and have launched a detailed investigation.

The case has raised serious concerns about rising violence over property disputes, the safety of women who confront harassment or intimidation, and the willingness of family members to jointly participate in coordinated acts of aggression. Police officials say the investigation is underway and further action will follow based on evidence and witness statements.
