Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar dismissed speculation regarding a leadership change and reiterated that the Congress government remains united and focused on governing rather than responding to political chatter. He clarified that internal coordination between him and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is fully intact, describing their cooperation as a crucial factor behind the party’s electoral success in 136 constituencies and subsequent rise to a 140-member strength. According to him, discussions and decisions made jointly by the Chief Minister and himself carry authority, while outside commentary holds no weight. His remarks were directed at quelling persistent rumours surrounding a so-called "November Revolution" narrative that suggested power-shift possibilities.
Shivakumar underscored that the administration is prioritizing governance and development over political speculation. He emphasized that there was no need for Congress workers or media to debate leadership matters because clarity on the issue is already well-established within the party. By presenting a unified front, he aimed to send a clear message that internal stability remains the cornerstone of the government’s functioning, and distractions from that mission will not be entertained. His comments highlighted a commitment to continuity and administrative focus rather than leadership rivalry or factionalism.
On the Bengaluru Tunnel Road project, Shivakumar adopted an inclusive approach by offering to form a committee headed by the Leader of Opposition, R. Ashoka, to review project plans and suggest suitable entry and exit points near Lalbagh. He extended this cooperation by stating that any individuals recommended by Ashoka, including legislators like C. N. Ashwath Narayan, would be included in the panel. He reiterated that collaborative planning for city development takes precedence over public confrontations or protests, and that he has personally reviewed the site to explore options and mitigate concerns. He assured citizens that public interest will guide the project’s direction and execution.
Addressing other issues, he dismissed questions on ceremonial responsibilities such as flag-hoisting for Rajyotsava, indicating that undue importance should not be attached to such symbolic discussions. On the sensitive topic of linguistic identity and the presence of Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti members in Belagavi, Shivakumar signaled a reconciliatory stance. He noted that MES members operate within Karnataka’s democratic system as elected representatives and emphasized the intent to engage them constructively rather than treat them as adversaries. He suggested that efforts will focus on integrating them within Karnataka’s civic and cultural fabric while maintaining law-and-order norms.
