In Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, security forces achieved a significant breakthrough against the Maoist insurgency after killing three high-value Naxal operatives, marking yet another major setback for the Maoist network in the Bastar region. The encounter, which unfolded early Sunday in a dense and rugged forest belt, eliminated cadres who collectively carried rewards totalling Rs 15 lakh and played key operational roles within the Maoist hierarchy.
According to police, the anti-Maoist operation was launched following precise intelligence inputs about the armed Maoist movement in the area. As teams advanced into the forested terrain, intermittent exchanges of gunfire erupted. Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan later confirmed that three Maoists were neutralised during the sustained engagement.
The dead included Madvi Deva, a feared Janmilitia Commander known for his sniper capabilities and active involvement in the Konta Area Committee. Alongside him were Podium Gangi, the CNM Commander for the Konta division, and Sodi Gangi, a Kistaram Area Committee member. Two of the slain cadres were women, and all three carried individual bounties of Rs 5 lakh. Security forces also recovered significant weaponry from the encounter site, including a .303 rifle, BGL launchers, and assorted ammunition — further evidence of the group’s operational preparedness.
Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattalingam described the encounter as an indicator of the Maoist movement’s shrinking strength. He said the insurgency in Bastar has entered its “final stages,” with the organisation’s ability to intimidate or wage coordinated attacks now severely eroded. He emphasised that ongoing joint operations involving the DRG, CRPF, Bastar Fighters, and other security formations are systematically dismantling what remains of Maoist hideouts and support mechanisms.
The latest operation pushes the tally of Maoists killed in Bastar in 2025 to 233, including senior Central Committee figures, DKSZC operatives, and PLGA fighters. Across Chhattisgarh as a whole, the number stands at 262, with notable operations also unfolding in Gariaband and parts of the Durg division.
Security personnel continue to sweep the surrounding jungle tracts for additional Maoist presence. Officials said a comprehensive report will be issued once the ongoing search and sanitisation exercises conclude.
