A wave of panic spread through Lucknow’s Mohanlalganj area on Sunday after a 19-year-old woman, identified as Priyanshi, was brutally killed inside her home. Police said the accused, Alok—known to the victim—attacked her during a confrontation that escalated after she rejected his marriage proposal. According to investigators, the two had engaged in a heated argument shortly before the assault, during which Alok allegedly stabbed Priyanshi and slit her throat. The victim died on the spot, before neighbours or authorities could reach her.
Police said Alok fled immediately, escaping on his motorcycle and leaving the neighbourhood stunned. Residents alerted the police control room, prompting senior officers, including the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), to rush to the location with additional personnel. A forensic team and fingerprint experts examined the house, collecting samples and evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
DCP South Zone Nipun Agrawal confirmed that the preliminary inquiry indicates the crime stemmed from a personal dispute. He added that efforts are underway to locate the absconding suspect, and investigators are analysing CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace his movements and reconstruct the sequence of events. Further legal steps, including detailed forensic evaluations and witness statements, are currently in progress.
The case comes on the heels of several similar incidents reported across Uttar Pradesh. Earlier this week in Prayagraj, police arrested an Army soldier named Deepak for the murder of his 17-year-old girlfriend. Investigators said he killed the minor after she pressured him to marry her despite his engagement to another woman. On November 10, he allegedly took her to an orchard on his motorcycle, slit her throat and buried her body. Authorities recovered the remains five days later, aided by clues found in a bag at the scene, including a book bearing identifying information.
Last month, Kanpur police also solved a chilling murder case involving a 20-year-old woman named Akanksha, also known as Mahi, who was strangled by her live-in partner. He and an accomplice reportedly stuffed her body into a suitcase and dumped it into the Yamuna River near Banda. After a two-month investigation, both suspects were arrested. These cases, occurring within weeks of one another, have renewed public concern over the rising number of violent crimes rooted in personal relationships across the state.
