The United States has extended an offer to assist India in investigating the deadly explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, but US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has expressed confidence in India’s ability to handle the probe independently, praising the country’s “capable and professional” approach.
Speaking to reporters in Canada after a G7 foreign ministers’ meeting on Wednesday, Rubio confirmed that Washington had conveyed its willingness to cooperate with Indian authorities if needed. However, he noted that India’s investigation teams were managing the situation with precision and efficiency. “We’ve offered to help, but I think they’re very capable in these investigations,” Rubio said. “They don’t need our help, and they’re doing a good job.”
The November 10 explosion — which killed 12 people and injured several others near the Red Fort Metro Station — prompted a major security response in the Indian capital. Multiple agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Delhi Police’s Special Cell, and forensic units, are coordinating to determine whether the blast was the result of a terror plot or a sophisticated local operation.
Rubio’s remarks come amid widespread global expressions of solidarity with India. The US Embassy in New Delhi also issued a statement mourning the victims. Ambassador Sergio Gor wrote on social media: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who were lost in the terrible explosion in New Delhi last night. We wish a swift recovery to those who were injured.”
Meanwhile, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met Rubio on the sidelines of the G7 meeting, where the Delhi blast was among several bilateral and international topics discussed. “Appreciate his condolences on the loss of lives in the blast in Delhi,” Jaishankar posted on X. “Discussed our bilateral ties, focusing on trade and supply chains. Exchanged views on the Ukraine conflict, the Middle East/West Asia situation, and the Indo-Pacific.”
The US State Department earlier said it was “closely monitoring the situation in New Delhi” and stood ready to provide consular and technical assistance if requested. A spokesperson told PTI, “We are aware of the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. We are closely monitoring the situation and stand ready to provide consular assistance.”
With the capital still on high alert, Indian investigators continue to pursue multiple leads, including possible links to cross-border terror groups. While the US and other G7 allies have expressed readiness to assist, Washington’s confidence in India’s investigative capacity underscores the growing trust and strategic cooperation between the two nations.
