Six people were killed and several others were injured on Monday morning after a coordinated militant assault on the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Peshawar, Pakistan. According to officials, the attack began around 8 am when two suicide bombers blew open the main gate of the paramilitary complex, creating a massive breach that allowed armed militants to storm inside the compound.
Security officials said the first suicide bomber detonated at the entrance, killing three FC personnel instantly. Moments later, a second bomber struck near the motorcycle stand inside the gate, causing further chaos. The explosions cleared the way for multiple gunmen to enter the premises, triggering a fierce firefight with FC commandos and police units.
Eyewitnesses reported heavy gunfire as security forces engaged the intruders inside the compound. Authorities confirmed that three militants were shot dead during the gun battle that followed the blasts. Several FC personnel sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed said the entire area had been sealed off and that a full clearance operation was underway to ensure no additional attackers remained inside the facility. He added that specialised units were sweeping the premises to neutralise any potential explosives or hidden threats.
A senior official, speaking anonymously to Reuters, confirmed that at least two suicide bombers had been involved in breaching the entrance and initiating the assault. The attack prompted a rapid response from both police and army units, who cordoned off the compound and surrounding neighbourhoods.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed, speaking to Geo TV, confirmed the sequence of explosions and clarified that one blast occurred at the gate while the second detonated inside the compound near the motorcycle stand.
The attack on the FC headquarters represents a major security breach in Peshawar, a city that has seen repeated militant assaults over the years. Security forces remain on high alert as investigations continue into how the attackers planned and executed the twin suicide bombings and infiltration.
