Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) founder Thalapathy Vijay has issued a strong warning about the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tamil Nadu, expressing fear that the process, if carried out in an opaque and poorly structured manner, could potentially deprive the state’s entire eligible population—estimated at 6.38 crore—of their fundamental right to vote. Vijay said the scale and manner of the exercise had created confusion and suspicion among the public.
TVK has also announced plans to stage a statewide protest on November 16 to oppose what it describes as an improperly executed revision process. The protest will take place only if the state government grants permission, but party leaders say they intend to continue raising the issue until clarity and transparency are restored.
In a detailed video statement, Vijay stressed that the right to vote is not merely a constitutional guarantee but an inseparable part of a citizen’s identity and participation in democracy. He cautioned that the way the SIR operation is unfolding could lead to the large-scale exclusion of legitimate voters. According to him, people across Tamil Nadu are struggling to understand whether this is a standard verification process or a covert attempt at re-registration that may cause names to vanish from the final voter list.
Vijay highlighted that Tamil Nadu’s estimated population of 6.38 crore matches the number of individuals whose names must appear in the electoral rolls. He said that without transparency, millions could unknowingly lose their voting rights. He emphasised the importance of receiving an acknowledgement slip from the Booth Level Officer (BLO) after verification and urged first-time voters to secure and submit Form 6 as quickly as possible. He encouraged every voter to identify their BLO, collect their contact number, and remain attentive throughout the verification window.
Pointing out logistical inconsistencies, Vijay questioned how SIR forms could realistically reach every household in just one month. He said it was unreasonable to expect citizens to remain at home throughout the day waiting for officials, especially when many working families have tight schedules. While agreeing that fake entries, duplicates, and deceased individuals must be removed from the electoral list, Vijay asked why long-registered, legitimate voters were suddenly expected to re-register under a seemingly rushed and confusing process.
The actor-politician also alleged that SIR forms were not reaching TVK workers or supporters and suggested this was being done deliberately to weaken the party’s voter base. Without naming specific political opponents, he said “we all know why and who is doing this,” implying political interference in the revision exercise.
Vijay issued a special appeal to young and first-time voters—particularly those belonging to Gen Z—urging them to be vigilant, fill Form 6 accurately, and keep their documents ready. He warned that attempts were being made to exclude the younger electorate, which he described as the “most powerful and decisive force” in the upcoming elections.
Concluding his message, Vijay said the unfolding situation clearly indicated that “the real contest is between TVK and the DMK,” and urged every supporter and citizen to stay alert. He reiterated that democracy and the power of the vote remain the public’s strongest tools and must be protected at all costs.
