Authorities in South Goa have ordered the immediate sealing of The Cape Goa restaurant after uncovering serious lapses in fire safety and overall public safety compliance. The action was taken following inspections that raised alarm over multiple hazardous conditions at the establishment, particularly those related to the unsafe storage and handling of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
Officials found that LPG cylinders were being stored in a manner that posed a significant fire risk, violating established safety norms and increasing the potential for accidents. In addition to the fire hazards, concerns were also raised about overcrowding within the restaurant premises, which could severely hamper evacuation efforts in the event of an emergency.
The authorities said that such violations directly endanger both patrons and staff, leaving little room for leniency. The decision to seal the restaurant was taken as a preventive measure to avert possible disasters and to enforce strict adherence to safety regulations. Officials have indicated that the establishment will remain closed until all safety shortcomings are fully addressed and verified through fresh inspections.
The move underscores the administration’s stance that public safety cannot be compromised, particularly in high-footfall commercial spaces such as restaurants. It also serves as a warning to other establishments in the region to ensure full compliance with fire and safety norms or face similar action.
