A disastrous love marriage occurs when the relatives of the Rajasthani bride and groom assault one another

A violent clash linked to a love marriage turned tragic in Rajasthan when members of the bride’s family allegedly attacked the groom’s elder brother and severed his nose, triggering a brutal retaliation from the groom’s side. In response, members of the groom’s family reportedly assaulted the bride’s uncle with an axe, resulting in severe injuries, including fractures to his leg.

The incident took place on Wednesday and stemmed from a long-standing family dispute. Around two-and-a-half years ago, a 25-year-old man named Shravan Singh, a resident of Barmer district, entered into a love marriage with a woman from his neighbourhood. The union was reportedly opposed by the woman’s family, who had been harbouring resentment and seeking revenge since the marriage took place.

According to police accounts, the situation escalated when Dharam Singh, the woman’s uncle, confronted UK Singh, Shravan Singh’s elder brother. UK Singh had gone to inspect the castor crop in his agricultural field when Dharam Singh allegedly attacked him with a knife. During the altercation, Dharam Singh and his associates are accused of striking UK Singh in the face, severing his nose with a knife blow.

News of the attack quickly spread within Shravan Singh’s family, leading to a violent counterattack. As Dharam Singh was returning home, members of the groom’s family allegedly intercepted him and assaulted him using an axe. During the attack, Dharam Singh sustained serious injuries to his hand and leg, with reports indicating that his leg was badly damaged.

Following the assault, Dharam Singh was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries.

A senior district police officer stated that authorities responded promptly to the incident and launched an immediate investigation. So far, seven individuals have been arrested in connection with the violence. From Shravan Singh’s family, Narayan Singh, Alam Singh, and Jalam Singh have been taken into custody. From the woman’s family, police have arrested Shankar Singh, Shaitan Singh, Tan Singh, and Sumer Singh. Investigations are ongoing as police work to establish the full sequence of events and prevent further escalation between the two families.
