A 40-year-old man, Sandeep Tiwari, died in Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur after a Chinese kite string became entangled around his neck while he was riding his motorcycle on Thursday morning. Tiwari, a private tutor, was returning from St Patrick’s School after dropping off his daughter when the incident occurred on the Shastri Bridge. The sharp, abrasive string—commonly known as manja—wrapped tightly around his neck, leaving him unable to free himself. He lost control of his motorcycle and fell, suffering a deep and critical neck injury.
Local residents rushed to his aid, removed the string, and took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors attempted treatment. Despite their efforts, Tiwari succumbed to his injuries. His sudden death has left his family devastated.
The incident highlights the ongoing danger posed by banned Chinese kite strings, which have caused multiple injuries in the region. Although the local administration launched an anti-sale campaign months ago, enforcement appears ineffective, as the hazardous strings continue to be sold openly in the market.
