AAP attacks Rekha Gupta over Singapore's Delhi AQI warning, causing international embarrassment

AAP renewed its criticism of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday after Singapore issued a public advisory warning its citizens about the severe pollution levels in the national capital. The advisory was released following the imposition of GRAP Stage 4, the highest emergency-level response to toxic air in Delhi.

Taking an indirect swipe at the Chief Minister, AAP’s Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote on X that “Chachi brings international embarrassment for India,” while highlighting that “the Singapore High Commission warns its citizens against Delhi pollution.” His remarks pointed to what the party described as a worsening pollution crisis mishandled by the current Delhi government.

In its advisory, the Singapore High Commission said Delhi authorities had urged people—particularly children, the elderly, and those with respiratory or cardiac problems—to remain indoors and use masks when stepping out. The High Commission also activated an emergency line for Singapore nationals living in the NCR, advising them to follow local guidelines closely.

The advisory further warned that extremely low visibility, caused by the dense smog blanketing the region, could disrupt air travel to and from Delhi. With the Indira Gandhi International Airport issuing alerts and several airlines preparing for possible delays, Singapore nationals were told to track flight updates and contact the High Commission if they needed assistance.

Delhi’s air quality deteriorated sharply over the weekend. A thick layer of toxic haze settled over the city on Sunday, pushing pollution levels deeper into the ‘severe’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the city’s average Air Quality Index climbed from 431 on Saturday to 461 on Sunday morning, severely affecting visibility and public health.

Amid the escalating crisis, AAP leaders intensified their criticism of the state administration, arguing that Delhi’s worsening pollution has now become an embarrassment not only domestically but also internationally.
