An Indian woman was killed in Toronto, and her partner is thought to be the suspect

A 30-year-old woman of Indian origin has been found murdered in Toronto, prompting Canadian authorities to launch a nationwide manhunt for a suspect believed to have been personally known to her. Police have identified the victim as Himanshi Khurana, a resident of Toronto, and say the circumstances of the case point toward intimate partner violence.

Toronto Police have issued a Canada-wide arrest warrant for a 32-year-old man named Abdul Ghafoori, also from Toronto, in connection with the killing. Investigators said preliminary findings suggest the two individuals were acquainted, and the case is being treated as a suspected instance of violence within a close personal relationship, according to Canadian media reports.

Police said officers were first alerted late on Friday night after receiving a missing person complaint. According to an official statement, officers responded at around 10:41 pm on December 19, 2025, to a call in the Strachan Avenue and Wellington Street West area concerning a woman who had not been located.

The search continued through the night, and early the following morning, at approximately 6:30 am on Saturday, December 20, officers discovered the woman’s body inside a residence. Authorities confirmed that she was found deceased and that the case had been classified as a homicide following initial investigations.

Police have stated that the suspect is wanted on a charge of first-degree murder, which is among the most serious criminal charges in Canada and can result in a life sentence without the possibility of parole if the court establishes intent and premeditation. Investigators have urged the public to remain alert and to contact law enforcement if they have any information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts.

India’s Consulate in Toronto expressed deep sorrow over the incident and confirmed that it is providing support to Himanshi Khurana’s family. In a statement shared on social media, the consulate said it was shocked by the killing of the young Indian national and extended heartfelt condolences to her loved ones.

The consulate also said it remains in close coordination with Canadian authorities and assured that all possible assistance is being provided to the family during this difficult time, as the investigation into the murder continues.
