Ayodhya will see the installation of a gold, silver, and diamond Ram idol in the Karnataka style

A Karnataka-style idol of Lord Ram, sculpted in Udupi, has arrived in Ayodhya ahead of its installation at the Ram Temple on December 29. The statue has attracted attention for its detailed South Indian craftsmanship and the way it blends regional artistic traditions with the spiritual significance of one of India’s most sacred pilgrimage sites. The idol is richly embellished with gold, silver and diamonds, reflecting both devotional intent and high artistic skill.

Crafted in Karnataka using traditional sculptural methods and Vedic principles, the idol weighs close to five quintals and stands an imposing 7 feet 10 inches tall. Its sheer size and intricate detailing have made its arrival a moment of keen interest among devotees and temple authorities alike.

The statue will be installed at a designated spot near the Sant Tulsidas Temple, in the direction of Angad Tila. The consecration ceremony is scheduled for December 29 and will be conducted amid Vedic chants, rituals and religious observances. On that day, the entire Shri Rama Temple complex is expected to be enveloped in an atmosphere of devotion and spiritual fervour.

Dr Anil Mishra, a trustee of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, said the idol weighs about four quintals and has been created in the Tanjore style by Bengaluru-based artist Jayashree Phadish. He described the artist as a painter and sculptor who has voluntarily donated idols to several temples across the country, including this one for the Ayodhya Ram Temple.

Speaking to reporters, Dr Mishra said the idol has not yet been closely examined, as it is scheduled to be formally unveiled on December 29. He added that preparations for the installation are now in their final stages and that the consecration will be carried out at an auspicious time within the temple premises.

According to Dr Mishra, the newly installed idol is expected to emerge as a fresh focal point of faith and devotion for worshippers. He said saints, religious leaders and a large number of devotees from across the country are likely to gather in Ayodhya for the occasion. The unveiling, he noted, will mark a new chapter of spiritual and cultural significance within the Shri Rama Temple complex.

He further remarked that the event reinforces Ayodhya’s identity not only as the city of Lord Rama and a centre of faith, but also as a living symbol of India’s enduring cultural and spiritual heritage, offering inspiration to future generations.
