Beginning on December 15, the PM may go to Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman as part of his outreach in the Middle East and Africa

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a three-nation diplomatic tour from December 15 to 18, visiting Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman in a tightly packed schedule that spans two continents in just three days. The trip reflects India’s broader strategic push to deepen engagement across West Asia and Africa.

Modi will be in Jordan from December 15 to 16, followed by Ethiopia from December 16 to 17, and will conclude his visit in Oman between December 17 and 18. The government views the itinerary as part of its ongoing effort to strengthen bilateral ties and expand India’s presence in regions that are increasingly important for trade, energy cooperation and geopolitical dialogue.

The tour follows a series of recent high-level diplomatic engagements. Modi attended the G20 Summit in Johannesburg earlier this year, where India highlighted inclusive growth and articulated the interests of the Global South. The trip also comes shortly after his two-day state visit to Bhutan, where he met King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck and Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay to reinforce the traditionally close partnership between the two nations.

The Ministry of External Affairs described India’s relationship with Bhutan as rooted in “mutual trust, understanding and goodwill”, strengthened by deep cultural connections and strong people-to-people ties. The upcoming tour is expected to build on this momentum, signalling India’s intent to fortify diplomatic, economic and strategic partnerships with diverse regions.

Modi’s visits to Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in areas such as defence, trade, energy, investment, connectivity and labour partnerships, continuing India’s active outreach on the global stage.
