Delhi-NCR piped cooking gas costs are lowered by Indraprastha Gas Limited

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), the country’s largest city gas distributor, announced on Wednesday that it will reduce the price of piped natural gas (PNG) supplied to households in Delhi and the National Capital Region. The price cut of Rs 0.70 per standard cubic metre will come into effect from January 1, offering some relief to domestic consumers at the start of the new year.

In an official post shared on X, the company confirmed the revision and said the decision was aimed at making clean energy more affordable for households. Following the reduction, the price of domestic PNG will stand at Rs 47.89 per standard cubic metre in Delhi, Rs 46.70 per standard cubic metre in Gurugram, and Rs 47.76 per standard cubic metre in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad.

The move comes in the wake of a major overhaul of pipeline tariffs by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The regulator recently revised the pricing framework for natural gas transportation across the country, a step that is expected to benefit both consumers and city gas distribution companies.

PNGRB announced the new tariff structure on December 16, with the changes scheduled to take effect from January 1, 2026. Under the revised system, the number of distance-based tariff zones has been reduced from three to two. The new structure divides pipelines into zones of up to 300 kilometres and beyond, replacing the earlier multi-slab model.

As part of the reform, a uniform and lower Zone-1 tariff of around Rs 54 per million British thermal units has been introduced for domestic PNG and CNG users across the country, irrespective of how far they are located from the gas source. The regulator said this would simplify pricing, improve transparency, and make natural gas transportation more cost-effective.

The impact of the new tariff regime is already being felt across the sector. Think Gas, another city gas distributor, has also announced price reductions for CNG and domestic PNG in several states ahead of the implementation date.

IGL said the price cut reflects its commitment to promoting cleaner energy and easing the financial burden on consumers. The company added that the revised rates align with its goal of making natural gas more accessible and affordable as India moves further toward cleaner fuel adoption in 2026.
