A 35-year-old advocate associated with the Central Bureau of Investigation lost his life in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir’s Banihal area. The victim, identified as Adil Ahmed Sheikh, was the son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh and a resident of Kandipora in Bijbehera. He was posted in Delhi as a Public Prosecutor with the CBI.
The accident took place on Thursday along the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway. Officials said Adil suffered critical injuries in the crash and was first taken to GMC Anantnag for treatment. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to SKIMS Soura, where he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Friday.
According to authorities, the driver of the Scorpio involved in the crash fled the scene and remains absconding. Efforts are underway to trace the vehicle and its driver.
CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing a black SUV speeding and attempting a sudden, reckless lane change before ramming into Adil’s Alto from behind. The footage indicates that the SUV was tailing another vehicle at high speed. While the vehicle ahead managed to escape unscathed, the black SUV lost control and crashed into Adil’s car.
The impact caused the Alto to spin violently and veer into the service lane, where a heavy truck was parked a short distance ahead. A cloud of dust obscured the exact moment of the final impact, making it unclear whether the Alto directly hit the truck. The CCTV visuals also show the black SUV attempting to flee the scene immediately after the collision.
Police are continuing their investigation and reviewing the footage to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for the fatal crash.
