President Droupadi Murmu is set to embark on a four-day tour covering three states—Goa, Karnataka and Jharkhand—from December 27 to 30, during which she will participate in several official and ceremonial engagements. As part of this visit, she will undertake a rare and significant naval activity by going on a submarine sortie from Karwar Harbour in Karnataka on December 28, according to an official statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The President’s journey will begin on the evening of December 27 with her arrival in Goa. The following day, she will travel to Karwar, where she is scheduled to board a submarine for a sea sortie. While the statement did not disclose details regarding the duration of the voyage or the class of submarine involved, the event is being seen as a notable interaction with India’s naval operations. Karwar Harbour, located on the western coast, is a major naval base and an important hub for the Indian Navy’s submarine fleet.
After completing her engagements in Karnataka, President Murmu will proceed to Jharkhand on December 29. There, she will take part in the centenary celebrations of Ol Chiki, the script developed for the Santhali language, at Jamshedpur. On the same day, she will also deliver the convocation address at the 15th graduation ceremony of the National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur, marking an important academic event for the institution.
The final leg of her tour will take place on December 30 in Gumla, Jharkhand, where the President will address the Antarrajyiy Jansanskritik Samagam Samaroh, also known as the Kartik Jatra. This cultural gathering brings together participants from different regions and highlights India’s rich traditions and heritage.
The submarine sortie is considered a rare and symbolic engagement during the President’s tenure, reflecting her interaction with the armed forces and underscoring the strategic importance of Karwar Harbour as a key base for India’s naval operations along the western coastline.
