Opposition parties have launched a sharp attack on the Congress government in Telangana after actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu was briefly mobbed by fans during a public appearance in Hyderabad, triggering a political confrontation over the state’s law-and-order situation.
BRS leader Muta Jaisimha said videos of the incident were going viral and, in his words, bringing embarrassment to Hyderabad. He claimed that such incidents did not occur during the previous BRS government and accused the present administration of failing to maintain effective policing. He alleged that the police and the government led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy had shown clear incompetence, pointing to a spate of violent crimes in recent days. Holding the Chief Minister responsible for the Home Department, Jaisimha said Revanth Reddy must accept full accountability and ensure immediate corrective steps to restore public safety.
Union Minister G Kishan Reddy also weighed in, arguing that the incident highlighted the need for stronger systems and clearer protocols. He said there should be a standard operating procedure for private and promotional events involving celebrities, and urged the Telangana Police to frame specific guidelines to prevent crowd mismanagement and ensure the safety of public figures as well as attendees.
Reacting to the controversy, Hyderabad City Incharge Minister Ponnam Prabhakar appeared dismissive, saying he was unaware of the details of the incident and that he had been occupied at the time. His response drew further criticism from the opposition, which accused the government of being indifferent to growing public safety concerns.
The episode comes just days after another actress, Nidhhi Agerwal, was similarly overwhelmed by a large crowd at a promotional event in the city, adding to opposition claims that such incidents are becoming increasingly frequent. Videos circulating from Sunday show Samantha Ruth Prabhu struggling to make her way through a tightly packed crowd while being escorted by her security team toward her vehicle. Despite the disorder and visible pressure from fans, the actor remained calm and composed throughout the ordeal.
