Nitin Nabin’s rise within the Bharatiya Janata Party marks the ascent of a leader who combines generational political legacy with an extensive record of grassroots organisational work. The BJP on Sunday appointed him as its new National Working President, a move that places the 45-year-old among the youngest individuals to hold the party’s top organisational office. His elevation comes as the BJP undergoes a major restructuring following the completion of JP Nadda’s extended term, and amid preparations for key electoral battles ahead.
Nabin currently serves as Bihar’s Minister for Road Construction in the Nitish Kumar-led government and is a five-time MLA from Bankipur, an urban constituency in Patna considered a BJP stronghold. He secured a resounding victory in the 2025 Assembly polls with 98,299 votes, defeating the RJD’s Rekha Kumari by a margin of 51,936 votes. His political journey began after the death of his father, veteran BJP leader Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha, which led him to contest and win the 2006 by-election from Bankipur. Since then, he has held the seat continuously, demonstrating firm control over the constituency and strengthening his base through sustained local engagement.
Over the years, Nabin has built a reputation as an organisationally skilled leader. From serving as Bihar BJP general secretary to shaping the party’s youth outreach as state president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, he has played a significant role in cadre mobilisation and election preparedness. His responsibilities have extended beyond Bihar as well. In 2019, he served as the BJP’s Election In-Charge for Sikkim during both the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. In 2024, he was appointed the party’s Election In-Charge for Chhattisgarh in the Lok Sabha elections, signalling the leadership’s trust in his strategic abilities.
His appointment as National Working President reflects a clear generational shift within the BJP’s organisational structure. Senior leaders, including JP Nadda, praised his rise, describing him as a dynamic organiser with the capability to set new benchmarks for the party under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. Modi, in his congratulatory message, highlighted Nabin’s humility, diligence and “grounded style of working,” expressing confidence that his energy and dedication would strengthen the BJP’s national footprint.
Rooted in a long-standing political family, yet seen as a modern and energetic organiser, Nitin Nabin now steps into one of the party’s most influential positions at a pivotal moment. With Assembly elections on the horizon in key states and the 2029 Lok Sabha cycle gradually entering view, his leadership will be tested in shaping strategy, revitalising the organisation and reinforcing the BJP’s pan-India presence.
