The Delhi High Court has issued notices to both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Delhi Police after a petition questioned the fairness of the ongoing police probe into the suicide of a Class 10 student from a reputed school in Lutyens’ Delhi. The petition, filed by the student’s father, seeks the transfer of the investigation to the CBI, arguing that only an independent agency can ensure an impartial inquiry into the circumstances that led to the death.
According to the petitioner, the Delhi Police has been conducting a biased and one-sided investigation. He claims that despite clear allegations in the suicide note—where the student reportedly named certain teachers—no action has been initiated against those individuals. The petition states that this inaction has raised doubts about the integrity of the investigation and strengthened concerns that the police may be shielding those accused. The father fears that without an unbiased probe, crucial details and accountability may be overlooked.
The petition also alleges that teachers and school authorities might be influencing police officials, potentially directing the investigation away from those named in the note. This belief has intensified the family’s worries, as they feel that the investigation does not appear to be addressing all relevant aspects of the case.
The High Court has instructed the Delhi Police to submit a full status report on the progress of its investigation and has asked the CBI to respond to the petition as well. The matter will be heard again on March 12, 2026. This development comes after the National Human Rights Commission earlier issued notices to district authorities and the central Delhi police following the student’s suicide, which was reportedly triggered by prolonged mental harassment by teachers at the school.
