In a first-of-its-kind development in Uttar Pradesh, a family has been booked for providing fraudulent information during the voter list revision process, underscoring the administration’s strict stand on electoral transparency in Rampur. The case emerged during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls when officials detected discrepancies in update forms submitted by the family.
An FIR has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act. The accused are Noorjahan and her two sons, Aamir Khan and Danish Khan, who, despite residing abroad in Dubai and Kuwait for several years, were falsely shown as present residents in Rampur. According to District Magistrate Ajay Kumar Dwivedi, Noorjahan deliberately filled in incorrect details and forged their signatures, which was detected during the digitisation of forms by Booth Level Officers.
Dwivedi emphasised that the voter list revision is being carried out with complete seriousness under the guidelines of the Election Commission of India, and any attempt to mislead officials or distort electoral records is a serious violation. Authorities reiterated that voter forms must be submitted only from a person’s genuine place of residence, and providing incorrect information or hiding facts is punishable under election laws.
Officials clarified that individuals who mistakenly submit incorrect details can seek corrections through their BLOs, but intentional misuse will result in legal consequences. The FIR serves as a strong caution for residents attempting to manipulate voter records and reaffirms the administration’s commitment to maintaining accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls.
