Congress MP Karti P Chidambaram has said that he is seeking clarity and accountability in connection with the Air India Flight 171 crash, citing the emergence of new information related to the incident. He has written a formal letter to Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, raising concerns over the handling of the matter and the need for greater transparency.
In his letter, which he also shared on X on Monday, Chidambaram referred to the loss of 260 lives in the tragic crash and said that preliminary findings had brought fresh material inputs to light. He stressed that these developments warranted clear explanations from the authorities and a thorough accounting of responsibility. According to him, the scale of the tragedy makes it imperative for the government to address all outstanding questions without delay.
The Air India Flight 171 crash is considered the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade. The London-bound aircraft, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed moments after taking off from Ahmedabad. The plane came down on a government hospital hostel located on the outskirts of the airport, resulting in massive destruction, widespread debris, and scenes of devastation. In total, at least 260 people were killed, and dozens more were injured, intensifying pressure on authorities to ensure a transparent and credible investigation.
