A UP man and his brothers murder their wife over a property dispute and discard the severed skull in a drum

A horrific incident has been reported from Firozabad district in Uttar Pradesh, where a man is accused of murdering his wife with the alleged involvement of his three brothers following a prolonged property dispute. Police say the woman was brutally killed and her body dismembered in an attempt to conceal the crime.

According to investigators, the accused used a sharp-edged weapon to kill the woman and then cut her body into two parts. The severed head was reportedly hidden inside a drum kept within the house, while the remaining portion of the body was left on a cot in one of the rooms. The discovery of the body parts has shocked local residents due to the extreme brutality involved.

Police teams later recovered the severed head from the drum and found the torso lying openly on a cot inside the residence. The gruesome nature of the crime triggered panic and outrage in the neighbourhood, with many locals struggling to come to terms with what had occurred inside the household.

The deceased has been identified as Lata Devi, who had been married to Ashutosh for around 25 to 26 years. According to family members, the couple had been embroiled in a long-standing dispute related to property matters. It is alleged that tensions over ownership and division of assets escalated over time, ultimately leading to the murder.

The victim’s family has claimed that Ashutosh’s brothers played a central role in planning and executing the crime. They alleged that the murder took place on the intervening night of January 12, following discussions related to the property dispute. The family further claimed that Ashutosh himself was not inherently violent and was influenced or pressured by his brothers into participating in the act.

Lata Devi’s brother, Sanjeev Dixit, told reporters that all four brothers were involved in killing his sister. He alleged that she was strangled and then her body was cut into two pieces. He said one part was kept on a cot while the other was concealed inside a drum, adding that the marriage had lasted for over two decades and that the motive for the killing remained unclear to the family.

Another relative, Upendra Pratap, echoed similar allegations, stating that Ashutosh and his three brothers were present at the time of the crime. He claimed that one of the brothers restrained the victim while the others slit her throat and disposed of the body parts. He also said that Ashutosh used to earn and share his income with his brothers, who live in the city, suggesting financial dependence and pressure within the family.

After receiving information about the incident, police and forensic teams reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Circle Officer Animesh Singh of Sirsaganj confirmed that Ashutosh has been arrested in connection with the murder. He stated that preliminary investigation indicates the crime was rooted in a family and property dispute, and further inquiry is underway to determine the exact role of each accused.
