A brutal stabbing incident claimed the life of a 25-year-old man in Delhi’s Mangolpuri area on Wednesday evening, after he was attacked by a group of four to five men armed with knives. The incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the locality, showed the victim desperately trying to flee while being chased through the street by his assailants, as onlookers failed to intervene.
The CCTV footage from Mangolpuri’s N Block shows the victim, identified as Akash, running through the area in a bid to escape the attackers. The men, some of whom were visibly carrying knives, pursued him closely as he tried to seek shelter inside a nearby house. However, before he could take refuge, the attackers caught up with him at the gate and began stabbing him repeatedly.
After Akash collapsed due to the injuries, the assailants dragged his body into the middle of the street and continued to stab him multiple times. The attack went on for several moments before the group fled the scene. Shortly after they escaped, an elderly resident emerged from a nearby house holding a stick and attempted to intervene, but by then the attackers were already gone.
Several people were present in the street at the time of the assault and are seen in the CCTV footage witnessing the incident. None of the bystanders stepped in to stop the attack, and some residents were even seen shutting their doors as the violence unfolded, highlighting the shocking lack of intervention during the crime.
Confirming the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for the Outer District said that a stabbing had been reported in the Mangolpuri area and that the victim, Akash, was declared dead. He added that the accused had been identified and that a detailed investigation was underway to establish the full sequence of events.
Delhi Police later confirmed that the accused had been apprehended and that a case was being registered in connection with the murder. Officials said all suspects involved in the attack have been identified and taken into custody, and further investigation is ongoing to determine the exact motive behind the killing.
Akash was a local resident who earned his livelihood by selling goods from a cart in the area. Police said that, as of now, the reason for the attack remains unclear, and investigators are examining all possible angles to understand what led to the violent assault.
