CCTV shows a drunk motorist ramming a car into a Bengaluru eatery after jumping a divider

A serious accident was narrowly avoided late Thursday night on Bengaluru’s busy 100 Feet Road in Indiranagar after a man allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol lost control of his car and crashed into a restaurant, creating panic in the area. The incident occurred around 11:35 pm, a time when the stretch usually sees heavy pedestrian movement and late-night activity.

According to police, the car was being driven by a 42-year-old man who was travelling at high speed from 18th Main Road towards 100 Feet Road. CCTV footage shows that the driver failed to negotiate a scheduled left turn, apparently due to excessive speed and intoxication.

The car jumped over the central divider, struck a parked two-wheeler and then rammed into the outer wall of a popular restaurant. The footage also shows a group of pedestrians standing just a few feet away from the impact point, who escaped the speeding vehicle by a very narrow margin.

Fortunately, no major injuries were reported, though the incident had the potential to cause serious harm. Traffic police confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The vehicle was seized immediately and a case of rash and negligent driving was registered against the driver. He was detained and later issued a formal legal notice. Police authorities reiterated that strict action will continue against drunk driving, warning that such behaviour poses a grave threat to public safety.
