Following a security alert, the BJP delays Deepti Tripathi's arrival in Haryana

The Haryana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party has postponed the formal induction of Deepti Tripathi, the wife of Manoj Tripathi, chairman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board, after intelligence agencies flagged a potential threat to her life ahead of the scheduled event on Tuesday.

Party sources said the decision was taken after an intelligence alert warned of possible risks to her safety, prompting the leadership to defer the programme as a precautionary measure. While no fresh date has been announced yet, BJP leaders indicated that her formal joining would be rescheduled once security assessments are completed and adequate arrangements are in place.

Earlier in the day, Deepti Tripathi had met Nayab Singh Saini, but she did not take part in the planned induction ceremony. Her entry into the BJP had attracted attention due to her husband’s position as chairman of the BBMB, a statutory body under the Ministry of Power that oversees water distribution and power generation from the Bhakra Nangal and Beas projects, which are critical to several northern states.

According to party functionaries, Deepti Tripathi had arrived at the BJP office accompanied by nearly 1,000 supporters to formally join the party when the intelligence input was received. In view of the large gathering and the absence of heightened security arrangements, authorities decided to immediately call off the programme to avoid any untoward incident.

Sources said intelligence agencies cautioned that extremist and criminal elements could pose a threat, leading to the postponement. Following the alert, security at Deepti Tripathi’s residence was strengthened as a preventive measure. Party leaders maintained that the move was purely based on security considerations and not due to any political disagreement.

Media reports about her imminent entry into the BJP had been circulating since the morning, but officials said the intelligence warning was shared later in the day. After reviewing the situation, the party leadership opted to defer the event rather than proceed under uncertain security conditions.

Deepti Tripathi, speaking to reporters, said she has been involved in social welfare activities for a long time and now wishes to broaden her work by entering active politics. She expressed disappointment over the postponement but reiterated that she remains committed to joining the BJP soon and serving people on a larger platform, adding that the delay should not be turned into a political controversy.
