Police uncover a conspiracy after a UP man slices off his foot to get an MBBS seat under the disability quota

In a shocking incident from Jaunpur, a man allegedly severed his own foot in an attempt to fraudulently qualify for admission to an MBBS course under the disability quota. The case has drawn widespread attention due to the extreme lengths the accused is said to have gone to in order to pursue a medical seat.

According to the police, the man initially attempted to deceive investigators by claiming that he had been brutally assaulted by a group of unidentified individuals late at night. He alleged that he lost consciousness during the attack and woke up the next morning to discover that his foot had been chopped off. Based on this complaint, the police had initially registered a case of assault.

However, as the investigation progressed, serious inconsistencies began to emerge in his statements. Police officials noted that the accused repeatedly changed his version of events, which raised suspicion and prompted a deeper probe into the matter. Subsequent findings revealed that the injury was self-inflicted and not the result of any external attack.

The police investigation uncovered that the man, identified as Suraj Bhaskar, had deliberately amputated his own foot using a grinder. Investigators further stated that he had administered anaesthesia to himself to endure the pain during the act, indicating a high degree of planning and intent behind the incident.

As part of the inquiry, the police examined Bhaskar’s call detail records, which provided further insight into his motivations. The technical analysis revealed that he was in a relationship and keen to marry his girlfriend. When questioned, the woman reportedly confirmed that Bhaskar was obsessed with securing admission to an MBBS course and was determined to achieve it by any means necessary.

Police officials also disclosed that Bhaskar had earlier visited Banaras Hindu University in an attempt to obtain a fraudulent Person with Disability (PwD) certificate. However, his efforts were unsuccessful, which is believed to have contributed to his extreme decision.

Further evidence gathered during the investigation ruled out any possibility of an assault. A search conducted near the alleged crime scene led to the recovery of several syringes from a nearby agricultural field. According to officials, these syringes were found to contain anaesthesia, strengthening the conclusion that the amputation was carried out deliberately.

The police also said that the findings were corroborated by Bhaskar’s personal diary, which reportedly contained entries referring to amputation and his desperation to gain admission to a medical college. City Circle Officer Goldi Gupta stated that efforts are ongoing to recover the amputated foot and that Bhaskar’s medical condition is currently stable.

Family members told the police that Bhaskar had been under immense mental stress due to repeated failures in securing admission to an MBBS programme. Officials said the investigation is continuing and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the full findings of the probe.
