The Kerala government has ordered an investigation into a man's death due to alleged refusal of hospital treatment

Kerala Health Minister Veena George on Sunday ordered a formal enquiry into serious allegations that a man died after being denied timely medical treatment at a Community Health Centre (CHC) in Thiruvananthapuram. Acting on reports and emerging evidence, the minister directed the Director of the Health Department to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and submit a comprehensive report detailing any lapses or failures in care.

The deceased, identified as Bismeer, was brought to the CHC by his family, who have alleged that he did not receive any form of medical attention upon arrival. In a formal complaint, the family claimed that despite his critical condition, the health centre failed to provide immediate treatment, and that this delay directly contributed to his death.

CCTV footage from the hospital premises, which surfaced after the incident, has intensified public scrutiny. The visuals show Bismeer arriving at the CHC accompanied by his wife, Jasmine, and appearing visibly distressed. He is seen crying out for help and making repeated hand gestures, while the footage reportedly captures a delay of approximately two to three minutes before the grill gate of the facility was opened.

According to Jasmine, even after her husband’s condition was apparent, no emergency intervention was initiated at the CHC. She alleged that Bismeer was referred to a medical college hospital without receiving even basic emergency procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), raising questions about adherence to standard treatment protocols.

The incident has sparked widespread concern and debate over emergency response standards at public health facilities. Authorities have said the findings of the official enquiry will determine whether there was negligence, procedural failure, or a breach of medical duty at the community health centre.
