Trump provides an explanation after photos from the Davos summit show a significant bruising on his hand

US President Donald Trump on Thursday downplayed concerns surrounding a noticeable bruise on his left hand, describing it as the result of a minor mishap and stressing that there was no underlying health issue. Addressing questions from reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to the United States from the World Economic Forum in Davos, Trump appeared relaxed and dismissive of speculation.

Trump explained that he had accidentally struck his hand against a table, which caused the bruise. He said he applied a topical cream afterward and felt perfectly fine. When asked directly about his condition following the long flight, the President responded confidently, saying there was nothing to worry about and that he was doing well.

He also linked the bruising to his regular intake of aspirin, noting that the medication makes him more susceptible to marks and discoloration. Trump said he takes a high-dose aspirin regimen and has been told that such doses can increase the likelihood of bruising. He added that while his doctor had suggested he might not need such a strong dose given his overall health, he prefers to continue as a precaution.

Earlier, the White House had also addressed the matter, confirming that the injury occurred during a signing ceremony for Trump’s Board of Peace initiative in Davos. According to the official explanation, the President struck his hand on the edge of the signing table, which led to visible bruising. Footage from the event showed that the mark was not prominent at the beginning but became more noticeable as the ceremony progressed.

This is not the first time bruising on Trump’s hands has drawn public attention. In previous appearances, observers have noted similar marks, sometimes partially concealed with makeup or bandages. Trump has previously acknowledged that he takes more aspirin than typically recommended, explaining in past interviews that he believes it helps protect his heart and that he is reluctant to reduce the dosage.

In recent years, Trump’s health has been the subject of heightened public scrutiny. In mid-2025, the White House disclosed that he had been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common age-related condition affecting blood circulation in the legs, after tests ruled out more serious cardiovascular issues. Despite persistent online speculation, including unverified claims about neurological problems, White House physicians have repeatedly stated that Trump remains in excellent health and that medical evaluations have shown no cause for alarm.
