Punjab Police have registered a criminal case against Rami Randhawa after a video allegedly showing him flaunting weapons on social media went viral. The action was taken following widespread circulation of the clip on Facebook, which drew the attention of law enforcement authorities.
According to officials, Randhawa had uploaded a video on his social media account in which he was seen openly displaying firearms. As the footage rapidly spread across platforms and triggered public concern, the police took suo motu cognisance of the matter and registered a case at the Ajnala police station under the relevant provisions of law.
Police authorities stated that publicly showcasing weapons on social media platforms sends a dangerous and misleading signal, particularly to young people, and constitutes a clear violation of legal norms. They emphasised that such conduct glorifies violence and undermines public order, adding that no individual, regardless of status or popularity, would be exempt from action in such cases.
The Ajnala police said an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the source and legality of the weapons seen in the video, as well as to determine whether any additional offences have been committed. Officials also reiterated that social media is a public and responsible space, and it cannot be misused to challenge law enforcement or disturb societal harmony.
Issuing a broader warning, the police said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found indulging in similar acts in the future. They also appealed to the public, especially influential figures, to act responsibly online, follow the law, and ensure that their actions convey a positive and lawful message to society.
