Unrest is sparked by temple vandalism in Hyderabad, and the idol is partially destroyed

Tension briefly flared in Hyderabad after an unidentified individual entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple and partially damaged a flexi banner and a Plaster of Paris (POP) idol kept on the temple veranda, a senior police official said.

Following the incident late on Wednesday night, a crowd of around 300 people gathered in the area and went on to vandalise a nearby Chilla. The situation escalated when the same group allegedly attacked police personnel who were trying to control the mob, leaving four officers with serious injuries.

The Kamatipura Police acted swiftly, registering cases and collecting evidence from the spot, including CCTV footage. Officials said crucial leads have been obtained from video recordings and the accused have been identified, with arrests expected soon. Two FIRs have been filed in connection with the vandalism and the attack on police personnel.

Clarifying misinformation circulating online, the police stated that only the flexi banner and the POP idol placed on the temple veranda were partially damaged. The main idols inside the Sanctum Sanctorum were not harmed and remain completely intact.

Authorities have urged the public not to believe or circulate rumours, warning that strict legal action will be taken against those spreading fake news or attempting to disturb public order through social media.

The Hyderabad Police said the situation is fully under control and appealed to citizens to remain calm, reiterating that firm action will be taken against anyone involved in disrupting law and order.
