A chaotic situation unfolded in Deoria on Tuesday night after a bulldozer went out of control and rammed into several parked vehicles, causing widespread damage and panic among residents. The incident, which was captured on camera and circulated widely, showed the heavy machine moving erratically through a public area, crushing cars and two-wheelers in its path.
Police officials said the bulldozer driver was allegedly intoxicated at the time of the incident and has since been detained for questioning. Despite the scale of destruction and the fear it caused, authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported, calling it fortunate given the intensity of the situation and the number of people present nearby.
Eyewitnesses said the driver appeared completely unresponsive as people shouted and attempted to stop the bulldozer. According to locals, the vehicle ploughed through at least six cars and several motorcycles parked along the roadside, leaving many of them severely mangled and beyond repair. The sudden movement of the bulldozer created confusion, forcing people to run for safety as the machine continued its destructive course.
One witness described the scene as terrifying, saying the bulldozer was being driven by a visibly drunk operator who smashed every vehicle that came in his way. The witness recounted that the machine struck multiple cars, climbed fully onto an SUV, and trapped occupants inside. Bystanders had to act quickly to rescue those inside by pulling them out through alternate doors as the vehicle was badly damaged.
Residents further stated that repeated requests to the driver to stop or park the bulldozer aside had no effect. Instead, they claimed the driver accelerated and swung the machine’s arm wildly, worsening the damage and intensifying panic in the area. The situation briefly resembled a stampede, with people scrambling to escape the bulldozer’s path.
Another local resident said he was nearby when the bulldozer suddenly charged forward. He added that despite clear warnings and pleas from the public, the driver continued to speed, appearing heavily intoxicated and completely out of control. While no one was physically harmed, the witness described the incident as a major accident that could easily have resulted in fatalities.
Police have confirmed that the bulldozer damaged more than half a dozen cars along with several two-wheelers. An investigation is underway to determine the driver’s condition at the time of the incident, including whether alcohol consumption directly contributed to the loss of control. Authorities are also examining possible safety lapses and violations connected to the operation of the heavy vehicle.
