A fatal road accident on the northern outskirts of Bengaluru on Saturday night claimed the lives of five young passengers after a Tata Indica car collided with a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus. The crash occurred after the vehicle reportedly lost control while travelling at high speed, leading to a devastating impact that completely destroyed the car.
According to police sources, the car was allegedly overspeeding when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Investigators said the car first struck a road divider, then crossed into the opposite lane before crashing head-on into an oncoming KSRTC bus. The force of the collision was severe, leaving the car mangled and causing fatal injuries to its occupants.
Four passengers, aged between 17 and 22 years, died at the scene of the accident. A fifth occupant, who sustained critical injuries, was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities confirmed that all five victims were travelling together in the car and were believed to be friends.
The bus involved in the accident was carrying 43 passengers at the time. Fortunately, none of them were injured. After the incident, the passengers were safely evacuated and transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
Bengaluru police have initiated a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Joint Commissioner of Police Karthik Reddy stated that officials are examining multiple factors, including whether alcohol consumption may have contributed to the accident. Blood samples collected from the victims have been sent to a forensic science laboratory for analysis, and authorities are also verifying the backgrounds of those involved as part of the inquiry.
Family members of the deceased expressed shock and grief following the tragedy. The mother of one of the victims told reporters that her son had informed her earlier that he was heading to a temple and might return late. She said he worked as a CCTV camera operator and described the group as close friends, adding that she was unaware of who owned the vehicle involved in the crash.
The incident has once again drawn attention to concerns about overspeeding and road safety in Bengaluru, as investigators continue efforts to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the fatal collision.
