A man kills his wife and takes her to the hospital, claiming it was a natural death

A man has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district for allegedly murdering his wife by strangulation and attempting to portray the death as natural, police said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Alahdadpur Basaunha village under the Gosainganj police station area. The accused, Lal Bahadur, is alleged to have killed his wife Sunita, who was originally from Sultanpur Khurd village in Ambedkar Nagar district.

According to police, Sunita’s death was initially reported as occurring under suspicious circumstances. Lal Bahadur took her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead, and subsequently informed her family. When Sunita’s relatives arrived, they accused him of murder, alleging that she had been subjected to repeated domestic violence and had earlier returned to her parental home multiple times due to abuse.

Police reached the scene, took custody of the body, and ordered a post-mortem examination. The autopsy confirmed death by strangulation, ruling out natural causes.

Following the medical findings, Lal Bahadur was detained for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to strangling his wife. He has since been formally arrested and sent to judicial custody.

Police said further investigation is ongoing, including examination of the circumstances leading to the crime and collection of additional evidence.
