International shooter Sambhaji Shivaji Patil, 27, lost his life in a fatal road accident in Maharashtra’s Palghar district while travelling from Pune to Gujarat, police officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The accident occurred on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad National Highway when the Toyota Fortuner in which Patil was travelling rammed into a truck from behind. Preliminary information suggests the SUV was being driven at a high speed. The impact of the collision was extremely severe, leaving the vehicle completely mangled and causing Patil to sustain critical injuries. He died on the spot due to the force of the crash.
Patil was accompanied by Yash Prashant Choudhary, aged 22, who suffered serious injuries in the accident. He was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Medical officials said his condition remains critical and he is being closely monitored.
Police personnel reached the spot soon after receiving information about the accident and initiated rescue and investigation procedures. A detailed inquiry has been launched to establish the exact cause of the crash, including an examination of the vehicle’s speed, road conditions, and the possibility of driver negligence.
