After being caught cheating on an exam, a Karnataka student hits the invigilator

An internal examination at a homeopathic college turned chaotic after a student allegedly assaulted an invigilator who caught him cheating during the test. The incident, which was recorded on CCTV cameras installed inside the examination hall, captured the entire confrontation as it unfolded in front of other students present in the classroom. The episode has since sparked concerns regarding discipline during examinations and the safety of teaching staff within educational institutions.

The incident occurred at Dr Malakareddy Homeopathic College in Kalaburagi. According to sources, the student involved was identified as Shahbaz, a native of Kerala. He was reportedly appearing for an internal examination in the subject of Homeopathic Materia Medica when he was allegedly found using a mobile phone, which is strictly prohibited during exams.

Assistant Professor Shivaraj Kumar, who was assigned invigilation duty at the time, noticed the alleged malpractice and confronted the student. After confirming the violation, the professor seized the student’s answer sheet and instructed him to leave the examination hall in accordance with institutional rules. CCTV footage shows a tense verbal exchange between the two shortly after the incident was detected.

The situation escalated rapidly as the student allegedly reacted aggressively. The footage reportedly shows Shahbaz arguing with the invigilator before suddenly lashing out at him inside the classroom. As the confrontation intensified, several students stood up from their seats and attempted to intervene, trying to calm the situation and prevent further violence.

Despite attempts by others to restrain him, the student is seen charging toward the professor following another exchange of words and delivering multiple punches before being held back and escorted away by fellow students. The altercation disrupted the examination and created panic among those present in the hall.

College authorities stated that the student’s parents were immediately informed about the incident. The administration has since decided to bar Shahbaz from appearing in any further examinations conducted by the institution. Officials also confirmed that an internal inquiry has been initiated to examine the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine additional disciplinary measures based on the findings.

Sources indicated that, as of now, the assaulted faculty member has not filed a formal police complaint. The college administration has said that further action, including possible legal steps, will depend on the outcome of the internal investigation. The incident has renewed discussions about maintaining examination integrity and ensuring adequate safety measures for educators while enforcing academic rules.
