A man has been arrested in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district for allegedly recording and circulating a private video of his wife following months of alleged dowry-related harassment, police officials said. The accused has been sent to judicial custody considering the seriousness of the allegations, and authorities have stated that strict legal action is being pursued.
According to police, the woman married Shivam Sahu on May 10, 2025. Her family has alleged that shortly after the marriage, she began facing harassment over dowry demands. At the time of the wedding, approximately ₹3 lakh was allegedly demanded, of which ₹2 lakh was paid, but pressure for the remaining amount reportedly continued in the months that followed.
The survivor alleged that in December 2025, her husband recorded a private video without her consent and later circulated it on social media as well as among relatives. When she objected to the act, he allegedly threatened to further defame her. Police said the incident caused significant distress to the woman and her family, prompting them to approach authorities.
During the investigation, officers stated that the accused was found to be habitually consuming objectionable online content, which investigators believe may be relevant to the case. After the video surfaced, the accused allegedly went into hiding in Mumbai.
Police further said that on February 12, the accused arrived at his in-laws’ residence in the Mauganj area carrying a weapon and allegedly threatened members of the family. Following an alert, police teams surrounded the location and arrested him on the spot.
A case has been registered under provisions relating to dowry harassment, criminal intimidation, and the circulation of private content. Officials said the investigation is being treated as a priority matter and that necessary legal protection and support measures are being extended to the survivor while further evidence is being collected.
