In the Telangana municipal elections, Pawan Kalyan will represent his ally, the BJP

In a significant boost for the Bharatiya Janata Party in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party chief Pawan Kalyan is set to campaign in favour of BJP candidates in the municipal elections scheduled for February 11.

Confirming the development, N Ramchander Rao, the Telangana BJP president, said he, along with Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy, held discussions with Pawan Kalyan on a range of political issues, with particular focus on the upcoming municipal polls in the state.

Rao said that during the meeting, Pawan Kalyan conveyed his complete backing for the BJP and agreed to actively campaign for the party. He described the decision as an important reinforcement of the BJP’s growing political momentum in Telangana and expressed confidence that Kalyan’s involvement would energise party cadres and voters alike.

Pawan Kalyan leads the Jana Sena Party, which is a constituent of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). In neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, Jana Sena currently shares power with the BJP and the Telugu Desam Party, making Kalyan a key NDA ally in the region.

The Jana Sena Party has a track record of supporting the BJP in Telangana, having extended its backing during the 2023 Assembly elections as well as the recent Jubilee Hills bypoll in Hyderabad. Kalyan’s decision to campaign once again underscores the continuing political coordination between the two parties as the municipal elections approach.
