Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Malaysia on February 7 and 8, 2026, following an invitation extended by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the government has announced.
This will mark Modi’s third visit to Malaysia and his first since India and Malaysia formally upgraded their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in August 2024. The timing of the visit is being viewed as significant, as it comes at a stage when both countries are seeking to deepen cooperation across multiple strategic and economic domains.
During the two-day visit, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim are expected to hold wide-ranging bilateral talks that will cover the entire spectrum of India–Malaysia relations. In addition to official discussions, Modi will engage with members of the Indian diaspora in Malaysia and interact with leaders from the business and industry sectors. The visit will also coincide with the 10th edition of the India–Malaysia CEO Forum, which aims to strengthen commercial and investment linkages between the two countries.
India and Malaysia enjoy a long-standing relationship shaped by deep historical, civilisational and cultural connections. These ties are further strengthened by the presence of a large Indian-origin community in Malaysia, numbering around 2.9 million people, making it the third-largest Indian diaspora population anywhere in the world.
Officials said the visit will allow both leaders to comprehensively review ongoing cooperation and explore new avenues for collaboration in areas such as trade and investment, defence and security, maritime cooperation, digital and financial technologies, energy, healthcare, education, culture and tourism. The discussions are also expected to place strong emphasis on enhancing people-to-people contacts and outlining a forward-looking roadmap to expand engagement in ways that deliver mutual and long-term benefits for both nations.
