Searching for Savannah Guthrie's mother using DNA evidence does not turn up any database matches

Seventeen days after Nancy Guthrie disappeared from her home near Tucson, Arizona, investigators say a crucial forensic lead has not produced any breakthrough in identifying a suspect. Authorities revealed that DNA recovered from a pair of gloves discovered roughly two miles from the 84-year-old’s residence failed to match any profiles in the national Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), prolonging uncertainty in the ongoing investigation.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that no confirmed DNA matches have been found so far. CODIS, a nationwide database containing DNA records of convicted offenders and known suspects, often helps investigators link evidence to individuals, but in this case the analysis yielded no results. Officials emphasised that the investigation remains active and that additional forensic material collected from the residence is still undergoing examination.

Nancy Guthrie, the mother of NBC “Today” co-anchor Savannah Guthrie, was reported missing on February 1 after spending the previous evening with family members. Investigators later found traces of her blood on the porch of her home, raising concerns about possible foul play. Security camera footage captured a man wearing a ski mask, gloves, long pants and a jacket, carrying a backpack. Authorities believe the gloves recovered nearby resemble those worn by the individual seen in the footage.

Law enforcement agencies are also pursuing technological methods to aid the search. Specialists are attempting to detect signals from Guthrie’s heart pacemaker using advanced tracking equipment capable of identifying electronic or medical device signals within a limited range. The technology has been deployed both aerially and on the ground as part of the search effort.

Despite the lack of a confirmed suspect, investigators continue to analyse evidence and follow leads. Meanwhile, Savannah Guthrie has publicly appealed for information, urging anyone involved or aware of details surrounding her mother’s disappearance to come forward, expressing hope that cooperation could still help bring answers in the case.
