A wedding procession in Rajasthan’s Tonk district turned tragic when a DJ vehicle allegedly reversed into a crowd, killing two young boys and injuring three others, including two girls. The incident occurred in the Gol Dungri area while residents were participating in pre-wedding rituals, transforming what began as a celebratory gathering into a scene of chaos and mourning.
According to initial reports, the DJ vehicle was moving at the front of the procession playing music while participants danced behind it on their way to collect ceremonial kalash items for the wedding. Police said the vehicle suddenly went into reverse gear and began moving backwards at speed. Before those walking and dancing behind it could react, two eight-year-old boys, identified as Kuldeep Keer and Dilkhush Keer, were run over and dragged for some distance. Both children died on the spot.
Three others were injured in the incident, including a woman named Anita and two eight-year-old girls, Usha and Neha. They were rushed to hospital for treatment. The sudden deaths triggered panic and anger among locals, and witnesses said the celebrations immediately gave way to grief as people attempted to help the injured.
Enraged members of the crowd reportedly caught the driver of the DJ vehicle and assaulted him before police arrived and took him into custody. Family members alleged that the vehicle may have been driven by a minor, a claim police said is currently under investigation.
Police teams from three stations, along with Deputy Superintendent of Police Mrityunjay Mishra, reached the spot soon after the incident. The officer later visited the hospital to meet the injured and console grieving relatives. Authorities have seized the vehicle and detained the driver for questioning while examining the exact circumstances that led to the accident.
The tragedy has prompted officials to consider stricter action against modified DJ vehicles commonly used in wedding processions. Police said they would coordinate with the Transport Department to initiate enforcement measures against illegally modified vehicles and issue advisories aimed at preventing similar incidents in the future.
Post-mortem examinations of the deceased boys have been completed and their bodies handed over to their families. Wedding celebrations in the area were halted as relatives and residents gathered in mourning, with families abandoning rituals to support those affected by the loss.
