A 10-year-old girl in UP commits suicide after being reprimanded by a teacher for her attire

A tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kannauj district has led to widespread outrage after a 10-year-old schoolgirl allegedly died by suicide following a reprimand by her teacher over untidy clothes.

The girl, a Class 5 student from Rampur, had gone to school on Saturday along with her younger sister, who studies in Class 3 at the same institution. According to reports, during the morning assembly, both sisters were scolded by a woman teacher during a uniform inspection over issues related to personal hygiene and untidy attire.

Deeply upset by the incident, the sisters returned home in tears and informed their mother about what had happened at school. Shortly afterwards, the elder girl allegedly hanged herself inside the house.

The incident sparked strong anger among family members and local residents, who gathered in large numbers outside the school and staged a protest, placing the girl’s body at the site. The situation became tense, prompting the intervention of local authorities, including the Block Education Officer and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, who arrived to calm the crowd.

Following a complaint filed by the girl’s mother, police have registered a case against the teacher involved, the school principal, and two other individuals. An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is currently underway.
